Gaisberg Tour
Visiting Salzburg without having been at the summit Gaisberg, very much liked by the locals, you realy have missed something.
Certainly you get a historical background of the city as well, but the top-highlight is the view from the 1.350 m (4.500 ft) high summit:
North: the northern lake district of Salzburg, East the Dachstein (glacier) - the Salzburg Lake District (Sound of Music), South the "Tennen- & Hagengebirge" with the Salzach-Valley, Southwest the Bavarian Mountains and West the view to the "Chiemsee" (lake).
The city of Salzburg has invested a lot in the last couple of years to work on the trails at the Gaisberg. Today there are plenty of hiking trails (roundtrips) suiting everyones fitness. Choose together with your personal guide your trail or just relax and enjoy sitting on the terrasse of the inn right at the summit (Gasthof Gaisbergspitze).
The return trip to Salzburg goes via the so called "Schwaitelalmsstrasse".
