King Ludwig castles "Neuschwanstein"
We depart Salzburg and drive to Irschenberg passing the Chiemlake. The drive continues through typical Bavarian Mountain villages to Fuessen. In Fuessen we've arrived at the highlight of that tour, the world famous King Ludwig Castle Neuschwanstein. After visiting the castle you can try some Bavarian delicacy for lunch.
Before we go back to Salzburg we visit another highlight of that tour, the famous Baroque Church of Wies (Wieschurch).
Ludwig II = "Mad" King Ludwig ruled
Bavaria for 23 years until his death in 1886 at
the age of 41. Rather than deal with politics in
the Bavarian capital Munich, Ludwig frittered away
most of his time at his family´s hunting palace,
Hohenschwangau. He spent most of his adult life
constructing his fanciful Neuschwanstein castle
- much like a kid builds a tree house on a neighboring
hill.
This tour perfectly combines breathtaking scenery with one of the most visited and famous historical sites in Europe, the Neuschwanstein Castle.
